Self would see windfall at Final Four
When it comes to financial incentives, Kansas sets the bar high for Bill Self.
Many schools give coaches bonuses for making the NCAA tournament field, then advancing round by round. Self has cashed in KU's prescribed bonuses for winning the Big 12 regular-season championship ($50,000) and conference tournament ($25,000). But his contract calls for nothing more unless he and the Jayhawks reach the Final Four.
For that, Self gets $100,000. Win the national title, and he would collect an additional $100,000.
His previous deal, signed in 2003, included bonuses for Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles, NCAA tournament participation, reaching the Sweet 16 and Final Four and winning the NCAA title. It also rewarded a 25-win or better season.
